We invite you to join us in advocating for our 2.1 million students on January 26-27, 2020.

Annual Legislative Conference
January 26-27, 2020
The Annual Legislative Conference is offered to all California community college CEOs, trustees, faculty, staff, and partner organizations interested in advocating for higher education. This year’s conference will cover some of the most pressing policy issues of the moment. The Annual Legislative Conference also provides attendees with the opportunity to shape statewide policies and advocacy agendas.
Here is a preview of some of the sessions, you won’t want to miss:
Federal Higher Education Policy
Now, more than ever before, decisions made in Washington D.C. affect the success of our students and college operations. Join our national representatives in a discussion of higher education policies and proposals to modify the federal influence over education.
The Unspoken Effect of Tax Credits on Education Funding
Over the past decade, while California suffered the Great Recession, California’s community college districts and schools lost over $66 billion through two suspensions of Proposition 98 and overall reductions in education funding. During this same time period, California spent over $65 billion in tax credits to merely the top ten tax credits. Discuss how the state’s largest tax credits may not be meeting their intended goals, their impact on the state’s general fund and the damage done to our institutions by a reduction of education funding by 40 cents on the dollar.
The Quest for Affordable Student Housing
The League’s Affordability, Food, & Housing Access Taskforce was formed to create ideas, best practices, and solutions that address students’ basic needs insecurity. Join a real discussion of the costs and benefits of student housing compare to other policy alternatives intended to address housing insecurity. Hear the innovative approaches colleges are exploring to connect students with affordable housing.
