In this dynamic four-day workshop led by Melissa Long, learn the strategies and techniques that have made the English corequisite model a success at Porterville College. She will demonstrate how to create a learning environment that puts students in control of their education. See how students who previously would have been placed at three-levels-below transfer-level composition are success-fully meeting the outcomes of the transfer-level course thanks to instructional scaffolding that sup-ports underprepared students while maintaining rigor. This workshop will highlight methods in-structors can use to ignite engaged learning, fan the flames throughout the semester, and then stand back in awe as students reach new heights in capabilities, creativity, and educational independence.

Who:The workshop is ideal for English, ESL, and reading faculty, but can also be adapted to other disciplines and may be helpful for counselors and those in student support services
